Chantilly: Features delicate floral, branch, and ribbon designs in heavy thread on a fine-mesh background; usually has scallopededges where the edge threads (“eyelashes”) are left uncut.
Guipure: A series of heavy, raised motifs connected by a few threads or on a coarse mesh background; offers a bold, sculpted look.
Honiton: A type of guipure lace with round, heavy floral and leaf motifs joined together over a mesh background.
Ribbon: Technically not a lace, but a pattern of ribbon sewn over a net background.
Schiffli: A lightweight machine-made lace, with an all-over delicate embroidered design.
Spanish: Lace with a distinctive flat design of roses on anet background; usually used for mantillas.
Venitian point: A heavy needlepoint lace with raised deigns of floral sprays, foliage, or geometric patterns on an open background.
